A three-seater built on a solid teak frame, with removable cotton-covered cushions. The proportions are deliberately low and deep — this is a sofa for sitting back in rather than perching on.
Why teak
Teak carries a high natural oil content, which is why it has been used for centuries on boats and garden furniture. That oil makes it unusually resistant to moisture, warping and insect damage, and it means the timber needs very little maintenance to last decades. It is the most durable hardwood in common furniture use, and priced accordingly.
Living with it
Cushion covers are removable. The frame is solid throughout rather than veneered, so it can be refinished if it is ever scuffed, and re-upholstered when the fabric wears — which is the point of buying a frame like this rather than a foam-and-staples sofa.
Care
Dust with a dry cloth and wipe spills promptly. Teak needs no polish to survive, though an occasional application of teak oil will keep the colour warm rather than letting it silver. Keep it out of direct sunlight for long periods, which fades any timber.
