Sheesham — Indian rosewood — is dense, strongly figured, and runs from golden brown to deep chocolate. That density is what lets a dining table span its length without bowing and a chair take daily use without denting. It darkens over the first year, which is the timber maturing rather than a fault, and the grain is pronounced enough that no two tops are alike. Expect the piece that arrives to differ from the photograph, because no two pieces of sheesham match each other either.
