A lounge chair combining a solid teak frame with a hand-woven cane back. Cane is used here for a practical reason as well as an aesthetic one: it breathes, which makes a real difference in an Indian summer where a fully upholstered back becomes uncomfortable.
About the cane
Cane is woven by hand, so no two panels are identical and slight irregularity in the weave is expected. It is strong in tension and will last many years, but it is the part of the chair most likely to need attention eventually — a cane back can be re-woven without touching the frame.
Care
Keep the cane dry and dust it with a soft brush rather than a cloth, which snags. Dust with a dry cloth and wipe spills promptly. Teak needs no polish to survive, though an occasional application of teak oil will keep the colour warm rather than letting it silver. Keep it out of direct sunlight for long periods, which fades any timber.
